Ed Bauter, MBA, NRP
Ed is Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Overrun Productions, LLC; and co-host of The Overrun podcast. He is a graduate student at a small liberal arts school in New England, recovering medical student, paramedic, and host of The Overrun Podcast.
His academic interests are in health care policy, resuscitation, and EMS medicine. Before attending medical school he was a field preceptor and EMS educator for 10 years,
A second-generation paramedic, Ed works to inform the public about the importance of EMS and strives to encourage other EMS providers to move the profession forward using the most up-to-date data and technology.
He is a fan of old movies, the New Jersey Devils, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dan Schwester, NRP
Dan is Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer of Overrun Productions, LLC; and a co-host of The Overrun Podcast. He has been involved in EMS and prehospital care for over 20 years in a wide range of roles, including street-level provider, field training officer, education, and clinical management.
He is currently a Paramedic Preceptor for a large progressive EMS agency located on the East Coast of the USA.
Dan is passionate about airway management, clinical exam skills, human factors, teaching, and traveling in his spare time.
He's married to his college sweetheart, has two adult children, and realizes that all of the Overrun crew have cooler bios than him.
Michael DeFilippo, DO,
Medical Director
Dr. DeFilippo is a paramedic and resident physician in emergency medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia & Cornell in New York City.
He is the medical director for Overrun Productions, and a featured member of The Overrun podcast.
Currently, Dr. DeFilippo performs research in ultrasound and EMS at both Columbia and Cornell universities.
He serves on the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Resident and Medical Students (SAEM RAMS) board as a member-at-large, wherein he is the chair of the RAMS research committee. His academic interests include medical education, resuscitation, and ultrasound.
He lives with his wife and dog, enjoys kayaking and gaming, and can passionately talk about all the different Reese's products for hours on end.
Michael Stone, MD,
Assistant Medical Director
Dr. Michael Stone is a resident physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia and Cornell in NYC. He fell into EMS doing BLS runs during undergrad and never got over it.
He is involved with the implementation of ET3 at NYP.
He spends his time playing games, hiking and trying to convince his cat to like him.
Anna Ryan, NRP, Director of Education
Anna Ryan is a paramedic who has been participating in EMS for 14 years. Starting her career as a volunteer, she grew up in the field and has held positions throughout the spectrum of emergency services as an EMT, dispatcher, paramedic and most recently EMS educator and Course Coordinator.
She has discovered her passion for educational design and in her position as an EMS Course Coordinator she has addressed the need to broaden the educational horizons for EMTs.
She has restructured the classroom experience to include the use of evidence-based practices and high-fidelity simulation complemented by critical thinking practice and in-depth community experience.
She lives close to the beach with 3 cats, one dog, one husband and a rabbit named Luke Skyhopper. She enjoys cooking, drinking tea that somehow tastes like desserts, historical docuseries and her dog.
Her love of glitter is almost boundless and she’s not ashamed of how many Starbucks pink drinks she has managed to consume in a day(4).
She dislikes insensitivity to the prevalence of human suffering, people who don’t hold the door for you when you have your hands full, people who are mean to animals in any capacity, heat with too much humidity, and blueberries.
Kevin Mazza, NRP, FP-C
Kevin is an active flight and ground paramedic. With over 10 years of experience, he has decided to give back to you, the people. His areas of expertise include crew resource management, 12-lead ECG interpretation, and Elder Scrolls lore. He is currently a flight paramedic at a large healthcare system in NJ and a preceptor paramedic for another large healthcare system in NJ. Kevin has done just about everything EMS has to offer, except management, because no.
Michael and Kevin were paramedic partners for years together as Michael worked on his undergraduate, leading to a bond that makes Danny jealous. Jess, Kevin’s wife, is also jealous of their relationship. Kevin is solely responsible for Michael’s ascendence to D.O.
While not doing all things medicine, Kevin spends his free time with his wife, son, four dogs, cat, and snek. If Kevin wasn’t in medicine, he would probably be a pilot (what a surprise, I know) or a fisherman. He also enjoys arguing with strangers on the internet.
Kevin has been a partner to every member of the Overrun, be it BLS, ALS, or life; and knows each of their allergies, weaknesses, and deepest fears.
Jess
Mastrocola, RN, MICN
Jess is an Overrun contributor, EMT, and Registered Nurse.
She has over eight years of experience in the EMS field and began her career as a volunteer EMT and firefighter. She now works full time in an inner-city emergency department as a registered nurse and per diem at her original EMS position.
She is currently enrolled in a BSN-MSN program and plans to specialize in nursing education.
She lives near the beach with her son, four dogs, cat, snake, and husband.
Most of her free time is spent writing papers for her bachelor’s degree, playing video games, or forcing her husband to make her tea. She shares Anna’s love of glitter, and the two often message each other whimsical glitter products to the dismay of their husbands. Her main passion in life is the support and fostering of rescue animals.
Jess would like you to know that Kevin has an extremely irrational fear of crustaceans.
Joseph Ryan, EMT
Joseph has over 19 years of experience in fire and emergency services. He also maintains his certification as a Hazardous Materials Technician. In addition to his responsibilities as a firefighter, Joe instructs key programs to include CPR/BLS, Traffic Incident Management Safety (TIMS), DT4EMS EVE, Stop the Bleed, and will soon be a NJ EMT Instructor.
Joseph graduated from the Emergency Manager 1 Program and received certification in the Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP).
Joseph has worked in numerous positions including busy EMS systems in major urban environments as well as suburban and rural communities.
Caroline Schwester, EMT
Caroline is an EMT, the author of the Rookieworld blog series, and an Overrun contributor, in addition to being primary scheduler and keeping us organized. She brings a fresh perspective as a brand-new clinician seeing things for the first time.
Currently, she is a pre-professional majoring in Biochemistry at a major university, working as an EMT for a major hospital system, an All-Conference lacrosse goalie in high school, and a college All-Academic team selection.
She is passionate about scientific research, and actively rides with a volunteer EMS organization, in the little amount of spare time she has.
Stephanie Leather, MA, EMT
Stephanie Leather has over a decade of experience as an EMT in both a voluntary and paid capacity; working with local and state agencies to provide services in New Jersey.
She has also worked in Level I and II trauma centers and regional emergency departments. Her Masters in Counseling with a concentration in Trauma studies combined with her experience in EMS provides a uniquely specific background.
Currently, she is the Clinical Operations Manager for a national GI psychology practice providing clinical hypnosis to treat medical conditions not otherwise responsive to medical intervention.
She also holds a Psychiatric Screener certification in New Jersey and has experience in both hospital based and community crisis systems in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This experience provides a mastery level of understanding of suicide risk assessments and interventions, as well as lending itself greatly to keeping her training relevant to current emergency medical providers.
Alexis Donoso
Alexis is Overrun Production’s Public Relations Coordinator. She is a recruiter and primarily focuses on healthcare job placement through the US.
With about ten years of EMS experience from her previous career, her passion for helping people (...taboo, I know) has translated into her second career as a business professional and HR connoisseur.
She spends her free time exploring new cultures, activities, and foods OR watching The Bachelor/ette if it’s a Monday night. Depending on who you ask, Alexis is quite the comedian!
Even if her jokes don’t quite make a landing, Alexis can almost always be found smiling and making those around her smile too!
